Due to confidentiality agreements and respecting the Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA), work samples are not available for public display in this portfolio. I’m glad to discuss the range of my experience in a personal conversation.

Goal

To design and develop an interactive SharePoint site that consolidates DEI materials and resources, making it easy for Delta’s Innovation team to access and engage with content focused on cultural moments, inclusivity, and belonging.

Overview

As a summer intern with Delta's Innovation team, I was tasked with creating an internal DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) SharePoint site. This platform served as a centralized resource hub to foster inclusivity and increase team engagement around cultural awareness initiatives. This experience involved collaborating with multiple departments, including the Global DEI team and led to the successful design and implementation of a site that met the team’s specific needs.

Target Audience

The target audience for the DEI SharePoint site includes Delta's Innovation team, cross-functional teams, and employees seeking to engage with DEI initiatives. It also caters to the Global DEI team, who can use it as a platform for education and engagement.

Role

Spearheaded the project from concept to implementation, performing the following key responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing the SharePoint site’s structure.

  • Collaborating with the Global DEI team and other stakeholders to gather requirements.

  • Using Power FX to code interactive elements of the site.

  • Managing the project using Agile methodologies, ensuring alignment with the broader team’s strategic goals.

How Might We….

Create an engaging and accessible platform that encourages Delta’s Innovation team to actively participate in DEI initiatives, enhancing their understanding of cultural moments while reinforcing the company’s commitment to inclusivity?

User Flowchart: Power FX Quiz

Creating the Power FX Quiz App

The Power FX Quiz App was developed as a dynamic tool to engage users in fun and interactive ways while enhancing their understanding of cultural moments and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) topics. The app is built using PowerApps, leveraging Power FX to code the logic behind correct and incorrect answers, score, and collect data. This project was designed to make learning both engaging and informative for internal team members. (Self-Taught)

    • The project began by identifying a need to increase team awareness of key DEI moments through an interactive platform.

    • Initial brainstorming focused on user engagement, ease of access, and delivering key learning objectives in a quiz format.

    • PowerApps was chosen due to its compatibility with SharePoint and its ease of use for building user-friendly apps.

    • Power FX, the low-code language native to PowerApps, was selected to develop quiz logic, including the management of correct and incorrect answers.

    • Quiz Logic: Power FX was used to handle:

      • Validating user responses.

      • Incrementing scores for correct answers.

      • Providing instant feedback on whether answers were right or wrong.

      • Disabling buttons after an incorrect answer to prevent retries.

    • Data Collection: Each user’s performance was tracked and stored in a connected Microsoft List to record the quiz completion status, the score, and the date of completion.

    • Start Screen: Users are welcomed and provided instructions on how the quiz works.

    • Quiz Pages: The app presents a series of multiple-choice questions, with instant feedback for each response.

    • Results Page: At the end of the quiz, the user's total score is displayed, along with any additional learning resources.

    • Data Logging: User information and quiz results are logged in real time to a Microsoft List for performance tracking.

  • During development, the quiz went through multiple iterations to ensure functionality and user-friendliness. Feedback from the DEI team was incorporated to refine both content and user experience.

  • The app was successfully launched internally as part of a broader DEI initiative. The quiz contributed to increasing awareness and engagement with DEI topics, becoming a key element in fostering an inclusive and informed workplace culture.

Design Thinking Approach for the Project:

Empathize: I worked closely with the Global DEI team and Innovation members to understand the challenges they faced with current DEI engagement. Through interviews and discussions, I identified the need for a unified platform where DEI information was easily accessible.

Define: The problem was a lack of easy access to DEI-related materials, which caused inconsistent engagement across teams. The challenge was to create a user-friendly, centralized hub that motivated team members to participate in DEI initiatives.

Ideate: I brainstormed with stakeholders and proposed several features for the SharePoint site, including a cultural events calendar, resource library, phonetic name tool, and an interactive PowerApps quiz. The goal was to make the site both informative and interactive.

Prototype: I created wireframes and a basic SharePoint prototype to demonstrate how these features would work together to promote user engagement. Feedback was collected, and the design was adjusted based on user preferences and needs.

Test: I launched the site within the Innovation team and collected feedback. The team’s response was overwhelmingly positive, with particular praise for the phonetic pronunciation tool and the quiz, which helped improve cultural awareness.
